Like his sculptures, Fryer’s paintings are a visual assemblage of various colors and shapes. Light and size are manipulated to formulate semblances of organic images that remain elusive nonetheless. Fryer has stated that in his heart he is fundamentally painter, and that loading a painting with a kind of obsessive narrative has brought a kind of simple truth. The 2011 painting, Souls of Lost Painters exemplifies this obsessive spiritual process. Patches of blended colors from an all-encompassing sea that shifts from cooler colors at the top to warmer ones below.
