Artist Michelle Gregor, whose ceramic figures radiate an aura of burnished grace, strives to create balance in her work. She has a keen sense for the marriage between form and surface and a natural intuition for the way a completed work simultaneously suggests ephemerality and timelessness.
"I want each piece to have its own center," she explains, "its own vitality."
As a whole, Gregor's oeuvre forms a parallel universe of color, vigor, grace and tranquility. Inspired by the tradition of Bay Area Figuration, she has created a unique and transcendent body of work that speaks of her personal vision while reaching toward a universal purpose. Gregor is a "seeker" whose instincts guide her towards resonance.
"I have a sense of what I am looking for. I know it when I see it, and when I don't see it."
