“Moai are monolithic human-like statues carved between C.E. 1250 and 1500 by the people of Rapa Nui (Easter Island) an island in eastern Polynesia. Approximately 1,000 statues exist, primarily representing deified ancestors who watched over the island's communities. The statues are built on elaborate stone platforms (plinths) and typically face inward. Many of the statues are still in quarries in various stages of completion. Easter Island, Chile.”
