Michelle Gregor In-Person Workshop - June 7, 2025
Date: Saturday, June 7th
Time: 1 to 5 p.m.
Location: John Natsoulas Gallery 521 1st St., Davis, CA, 95616
Description: Three Figure Poses: A Clay Workshop
This immersive in-person workshop will guide participants through creating three distinct figure studies in clay. Led by Michelle Gregor whose work exists in the borderland between representation and abstraction, the workshop will explore the fundamentals of block construction while developing gesture, unity and flow.
Through targeted exercises, participants will build the human form from clay using basic components to expressive poses, discovering key concepts including contrapposto, figure groupings, and narrative development. Michelle’s approach emphasizes experimentation—transforming initial sketches into dynamic sculptures that capture movement, gesture, and vitality using solid construction techniques.
Workshop Highlights:
Visual journey through figurative art history for inspiration and concept development
Demonstrations of three fundamental poses: reclining, standing, and seated figures
Techniques for solid construction using a figurative approach
Methods for massing and establishing primary forms
Demonstration and instruction on surface techniques
